Best of 2013: Victorian Home
Posted By Brian Tomlin on December 28, 2013
In 2013 the blog published the first seven parts of a ten part series on what homes looked like and how they functioned.
- How They Lived (Part 1) and Styles and Conventions (Part 2) showed us that home ownership was much less common than it is today and largely dependent on where you lived and your social class. Home styles varied as well depending on what part of the country you lived in and whether you were in a rural or urban community.
- Parlor (Part 3): The most important room in the house.
- Kitchen (Part 4): The engine of the home.
- Garden (Part 5): Practicality mixed with beauty.
- Bathrooms (Part 6): Wash Stands, Dressing Rooms, Water Closets and Outhouses
- Bedrooms (Part 7): The Birth of Matchy-Matchy
Additional posts in this series will be published in 2014 such as: Dining Rooms, Attics/ Barns/Basements
Will you ever be continuing your posts on Victorian Homes concerning attics, basements and barns?
