Confusion in the Records of Joseph M. Smith of Halifax

Joseph M. Smith is buried at Halifax United Methodist Church Cemetery, Halifax, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. His stone states that he was born 9 October 1846 and died 13 April 1918 – and that he served as a Private in Company C of the 107th Pennsylvania Infantry.  At his grave there is a G.A.R.
