The Oak Hill Cemetery List of Millersburg Civil War Veterans

A newly-discovered list of supposed Civil War veterans who are buried at Oak Hill Cemetery in Millersburg is featured in this post.  This one-page list has 114 names, many of which are not included on the Millersburg Soldier Monument. There is no indication on the list itself as to the compiler. However, the single page is part of a multi-page list which also names veterans of other wars, the earliest of which is the Revolutionary War and the latest of which is the Vietnam War.  It was probably compiled by an area veterans’ group some time around or soon after 1984, as that is the last year of death noted on one section of the list.  Also as part of the overall multi-page list are veteran lists for David’s United Church of Christ Cemetery, Killinger; Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery, Killinger; United Brethren Cemetery, Killinger; Reigle’s United Brethren Cemetery; Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Rife; Keefer’s Cemetery, Rife; Forney’s United Prethren Cemetery; and Rickard’s Union Cemetery, Paxton.

In this present post, only the Millersburg Oak Hill Cemetery names and dates of death of the Civil War veterans are indicated – as they appear on the list – notwithstanding the multiple spellings of many of the names.  The Civil War Research Project has not yet completed the photographing of the grave markers in the Oak Hill Cemetery nor has it completed the research on each of the men named in the list.  The list is presented here for public comment.  If anyone reading this post knows of any information about any of the supposed Civil War veterans named on the list, public comments to this post may be made or the information can be sent by e-mail to the Project.  Of particular interest are stories, pictures, genealogies (especially family connections with other veterans), military records, pension files, grave location and grave marker photographs, and memorabilia related to the veterans.  For some of the named veterans, the Project already has extensive files and inquiries are welcome about what is available.  All of the compiled information will be also made available to the Historical Society of Millersburg and Upper Paxton Township and through them, to interested researchers.
